Practice, practice, practice

Like I promised I'm trying to get back into the swing of fashion related things and decided the first place to start was my croquis. I'm not a 'design from scratch' lady. I like to look at sketches before I start anything. With a sketch I can figure out construction, details, fabrication, and anything else that I need. It also keeps me from making many errors during the whole creation process. My croquis have always been in the style of bald, faceless women and I would always tell that oh so lovely newbie artist trying to look pro fib 'it's my style to draw them that way.' Rather than 'I can't draw hair or faces so I leave them blank.' I've decided my first step is to improve my fashion sketches dramatically, but the only way I can do that is with practice so I did these 3 sketches to see how much I need to improve and I can say honestly that it's a lot.

The first one's face is a bit longer than I wanted, but with the angle I was sitting at it looked a lot shorter. That one really got me into thinking of how I sit when I draw effecting what exactly I see as well ass taking a step back to really analyze the face

The second one's eye is a bit low and her lips were hard to shade becaaaause I was using a dull pencil. Don't hurt me! I know you're not supposed to, but I've always been one of those hard headed types and the lips were really hard to shade without a properly sharpened pencil. Though I kinda like the less heavy handed approach to hair. It looks a lot more flowy than the first, and it's lighter strokes building up which I like.

The last I didn't shade as much because I got overly excited about it being my nicest profile (I usually don't do them cause I can't) and went to upload right away. This one took a while, but other than the lack of shading it was my favorite out of the three because it's sort of minimalistic unlike the other two, and she looks high fashion. Though I love the anime look of the fist, and kind of sexy look of the second I love the high fashion sublety in the third. I dunno it just seems to appeal more. Anywho I'm gonna keep experimenting with faces and such filling up my deviantart scrapbook then see if I can replicate this in small form. Wish me luck!

Anime Con!!

I lost a family friend earlier this April and it really bummed me out. She wanted a sewing machine to do crafts and things, so it always strikes a sad note when I go to sew or do anything crafty, but I'm trying to get back into it for her rather than avoiding it. Soooo for my Annie I'm jumping back into working tomorrow, as planned. Here's hoping <3

On other news that's more happy my sister went to an Anime Con (and I'm sooo jealous because that's one of my life goals) and brought back pictures that were really cool and inspiring. Here's a few of my favorites that I really fell in love with.

This one was Raven from the Teen Titans. She is my favorite so it was really cool to see someone dressed as her among the pictures.

The next is Princess Bubblegum and The Ice King from Adventure Time. I've become hopelessly involved with this show, and my favorite character is Lumpy Space Princess (who my sister graciously bought me a pin of) and loved this picture endlessly.

Next is a costume I've wanted to make for ages, but have been scared to due to the amount of detail required, but this person pulled it off nicely. I love the LOZ franchise and Twilight Princess was my favorite game. I loved Midna's craziness and especially loved her in the end when she was in her true form so this was amazing for me to see.

This I love specifially for the detail in the costume. Sadly I've never seen Edward Scissorhands (I know!) but from what I've seen the costume looks pretty spot on.

More Adventure Time craziness, but I love the BMO costume. I wondered how someone would pull this look off and this person did it in an amusing way so it bought a smile to my face.

Gin Ichimaru and Rangiku Matsumoto are my favorite anime pairing in general even more than Usagi and Mamoru (gasp!). I love the costumes and how they did a show relevant pose of Rangiku attacking Gin when he decided to leave Soul Society *sighs dreamily*

This one I found especially impressive. I haven't seen the anime, but this girl actually made the gun that went along with her costume and it was amazing! It's almost as tall as her body!

Alright I think that's it for pictures that really impressed me and I hope to have something more design relevant for you guys soon. Just for viewing pleasure here's a couple candid Pedo Bear pics that made me laugh. Enjoy!
